Welcome to the Los Compadres Stables

The Los Compadres Stables are historically unique and play an intricate part of Palm Springs' early history and the desert horse culture. In 1939, at a time when Palm Springs was considered just a "Village" by many of its residents, various stables provided horses to ride in the canyons and open desert. In November of the same year, forty men and women, local riders who had their own horses, met at what once was the Visalia Saddle Shop on Indian Canyon Drive to form their own riding group - The Palm Springs Riding Club which shortly thereafter became Los Compadres. These riders also boarded their horses at these various stables and continued to do so until the Club and Stables were established.
In November 1942, the country was still at war and all activities and planning for the future Los Compadres were severely curtailed. By this time the club had a name, a constitution, By-Laws and was eligible to apply to the State for a charter. However, it was not until 1949 that the club's foundation was set in place with the building finally mounted and the all-important Stables were planned. In the beginning, a few members brought their horses to the club's new location and made due with make-shift corrals. These were situated along the Tamarisk trees that were planted on the West side of the property that provided shade for the horses and made a very good windbreak. Since their early humble beginnings, the stables have continued to evolve.
Today, many of the club members still traditionally board their horses here. Improved and developed through joint efforts of the club and stables, currently the stable can stall fifty-two (52) horses safely and comfortably. Pipe corrals are safe and sturdy enclosures for all types of horses. They are partially shaded with sand footing and equipped with feeders and automatic waterers. There are lights around the arena's perimeter for night riding and is watered and groomed regularly. A galvanized steel piped round corral provides a safe environment for any height and size horse. The stable sits on 7 1/2 acres with beautiful surrounding mountain range views.
Our boarders enjoy a variety of respective riding disciplines; Western, English, Rodeo Eventing, Endurance and Trail Riding. There is access to miles and miles of Scenic Mountain and Desert trails, including to the breathtaking Indian Canyons. There are many different terrains to meet the needs of every level rider and horse.
All horses are privately owned and we offer the use of all facilities and available services to every individual boarder. While boarding here, you are welcome to use any Veterinarian or Farrier of your choice; arrangements are privately made by the boarder. Our local Vets are available and have been affiliated with the LC Stables for several years. In addition, there is ample parking for your horse trailer.
