Guest Ride

This popular event began in 1948, when former President, Joe Butler, led the first organized three day ride for members and their guests up the canyon for a camp-out at Pinyon Flats. The ride took place in early March and eventually in the Spring of 1952 developed into the Los Compadres Annual Guest Ride and has continued every year since.

In 1993, Larry Purnel, former President and current member, organized a committee that created a structure wherein accurate records were kept and a manual was written to be used and followed for future reference. This along with the participation and hard work of the members, has continued to be one of the club's most important events of the year.

Today, the Los Compadres Annual Guest Ride is traditionally held on the First Weekend in March. Invited guests and their horses are given a warm-hearted welcome as they experience and enjoy riding some of the best Scenic Mountain and Desert trails that Palm Springs has to offer. The beautiful and breathtaking Indian Canyons are a rider's paradise at this time of the season.

Our guests can look forward to dinner, dancing and entertainment in our Clubhouse and Bar at the end of a great ride. They will also have a chance to take home something wonderful at one of the always popular raffle drawings.

All Stables facilities are offered to our guests to ensure that their horses are safe and comfortable.

We look forward to welcoming old and new friends in joining us for a truly unique and terrific time with plenty of good old fashion western hospitality and outstanding desert riding.

Deep Pit Barbecue

In 1941, the historic Palm Springs Western Week was sponsored by Los Compadres, one of the oldest and most active riding clubs in Palm Springs, CA. The event featured a parade down Palm Canyon Drive, a rodeo, a carnival street dance and a deep pit barbecue

Today, the Los Compadres Annual Deep Pit Barbecue is the only part of the Western Week tradition that has remained and continues to be one of the very few community-wide events of the season. It is held on the First Saturday in November and is typically attended on an average of 800-1,000 guests.

Los Compadres Club and Stables welcomes everyone from the community, residents and visitors to the Coachella Valley for good old-fashion western hospitality. Club members and their families pitch in to help with all the preparations beginning the previous Saturday when the clubhouse and grounds are made ready for the event. The menu remains the same, everyone experiences an evening of Los Compadres' Hospitality at it's best...the delicious beef barbecue is slowly roasted in our deep pit to create a tender, mouth watering dinner enjoyed by all along with music and dancing outdoors under the stars.

Partial proceeds from the event support the Los Compadres Scholarship Fund that promotes the advancement of Veterinarian Careers and other career pursuits.

The Annual Los Compadres Deep Pit Barbecue is an evening not to be missed and we hope that you will join us for some good old-fashion western hospitality, share in some great eating of authentic deep pit barbecue with lots of fun loving carrying on, western wear is always welcome.
